Auditions

So, there's this thing called the 'DSA' which is Direct School Admissions... it's basically a way for people who have no confidence in their 'O' levels (me) to try to get into JC early.
So I got rejected from HCI (yeah, thanks for nothing) but then got an email from ACJC to go in for an audition for Drama.
Let's get one thing straight: I was really happy about it, but at the same time very nervous.
I got the email on Tuesday and the audition was on Thursday and we had to prepare 2 monologues which they sent us along with the email that we got an audition.
So, what day is it today?
T-H-U-R-S-D-A-Y.
Yes, I did my audition today.
Needless to say, I was freaking out.
The monologues was a contemporary local piece (Mirror Mirror by Verena Tay) and Helena's monologue from a Midsummer's Night Dream by Shakespeare.
So, I went home from school on Tuesday and immediately printed the scripts out. Then, I began to read it but I couldn't have a lot of time for it cause I was doing my work. Then I really focused on it on Wednesday when I went to my cousin's house and she helped me with it.
So, I tried my very best to memorize the monologues but I could only really memorize the Shakespeare one. Then I went to school on Thursday, freaking out, and then went to YN's house to prepare (she got the email too) and then we went to ACJC. We got an a whole half hour earlier so we just slacked a bit. Then we met this other girl who was always DSA-ing and the three of us were just waiting patiently for the teachers to come meet us. We met MR there and it was so good to see her again! We hugged and she comforted and encouraged us which felt really good then we met the teachers who brought us to this room. First went the girl we met, her name's C, and then YN and I did some vocal warm ups first and recited our scripts.
Then it was YN's turn and then I was all alone there, just practicing my lines.
Then it was my turn.
I entered and stood there like some idiot for a while.
Then the teacher told me that I could start with a script that I was more comfortable with. So I started with the contemporary one. (Truth be told, I was more comfortable with the Shakespeare one but I decided that saving best for last would be better) and I did well at first... but then I started to forget my lines so I started ad-libbing. Then after checking my script at one part (I really tried so hard NOT to check my script but I still did in the end) I realized that I had completely missed out this whole scene! My heart skipped a beat but I just continued on without doing that scene. And the ending was very awkward.
Then the teacher went 'okay, you may start on your second piece' and so I did...
I admit, I felt more confident doing Shakespeare although I had to check my script once.
Then came the interview.
(T stands for teacher and M stands for me)
T: So, what other schools did you DSA to?
M: Erm, HCI.
T: So do you prefer HCI or ACJC?
M: ACJC
T: Why?
M: oh because I personally feel more connected here and I know more people here whom are my seniors and constantly praise the school and whatnot and I only DSA-ed to HCI because I grew up going to school opposite HCI and hearing everyone always saying how wonderful it was and whatnot but I feel that ACJC is a more connected school to be.
T: I see... now, what happened to your mid years?
M: ohyes... well, during the December holidays I felt like I took up way too many things, and committed to too many things that I couldn't handle so when it came to sec 4, everything just got dumped on me and I couldn't catch up...
T: I see... I mean, see, even if we were to let you into ACJC and ACSian Theatre, you do know that MOE needs you to get a minimum of 20 points for your 'O' levels... So, no matter what you still need to improve.
M: yes, I know.
T: What is your target for prelims?
M: About... 15? Because I really worked hard during the June holidays and I feel confident that I can do it (I really didn't feel confident that I could do it)
T: I see, well, if you hear any news within the next 2 weeks, that means you got in. Thank you and you may leave now.
I guess I can't think about it anymore since the audition's over and I can do nothing about it. I just can't shake off the feeling that I could've done so much better for my performance but I was too nervous and too worried about remembering my lines that I, in the end, sucked really badly.
However, I can't worry about it anymore. Prelims are 44 days away and I need to do really well for it!
I just have to pray hard and if the Lord really wants me to ACJC, he'll make it happen. Else, I know he has other plans for me too (:
Okay. That's the end of my highly detailed audition process.
And the end of a long post that has been long overdue.
